Tottenham were once again impressive under Antonio Conte on Saturday as they recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory over Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round. A Harry Kane double and a Solly March own goal did the damage in north London, with Yves Bissouma’s second-half strike turning out to be nothing but a consolation for the Seagulls.
The result keeps alive Conte’s hopes of winning silverware this season, while Spurs also find themselves in a promising position in the Premier League, sitting two points off the top four with two games in hand.
Conte has clearly already made a huge impression on his players, with Kane singing his praises after the Brighton win by hailing the Italian’s “brilliant” impact.
But it appears it is not just on the pitch where the former Chelsea boss is aiming to change things.
According to Football London, Spurs insiders believe Conte has delivered a number of home truths to chairman Daniel Levy.
Levy has developed a reputation as something of a frugal spender, with supporters often left frustrated with his seeming reluctance to splash out on the signings which could help elevate the club to the next level.
But the insiders are of the opinion that Conte has already made his feelings very clear to Levy about what he needs to do in order to achieve success, and Spurs could be set to make a number of big moves in the summer.
They signed Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentacur from Juventus in January – both of whom made their debuts on Saturday off the bench.
And Conte sang their praises at full-time, before spelling out exactly what he expects from them going forward.
“It was important to breathe the atmosphere for the two new signings, for us, for Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur,” he said.
“It was important to come in and to understand the intensity of this league. I repeat, two good players, two young players with talent. They can help us.
“Rodrigo, despite his age, only 24-years-old, has a lot of experience because he played 120 games for Juventus. Kulusevski, the same. I think they can help us.
“I’m pleased that I gave them the opportunity to come in and also breathe this fantastic atmosphere in our stadium. Our fans, the noise tonight was so intense that it was also very difficult to communicate with the players!”
Spurs are next in action on Wednesday when they host Southampton in the league as they continue their push for a Champions League qualification spot.
And if they achieve it, Levy will have no excuse not to push the boat out and give Conte his wish by spending heavily at the end of the season
