Tottenham and Google in talks over naming rights for £1billion stadium

Tottenham Hotspur and Google are "in talks" over a lucrative naming rights deal for the club's £1billion stadium.

Spurs moved into their new state of the art home back in 2019, with chairman Daniel Levy saying at the time that the club would be interested in a "naming rights deal" with the "right brand, on the right money". However, the club have so far yet to announce a sponsor for the venue's naming rights in the three years since moving in.

According to The Athletic, though, that could now change, with Spurs in discussions with Google over naming rights for the 62,850-capacity ground.

Google have signed a number of sports partnerships in recent years, including a multi-year sponsorship deal with Formula One team McLaren Racing back in March.

The global technology giants also have commercial agreements with both the NBA and the MLB in the USA.

Spurs home would provide a unique advertising platform for Google, with the stadium having also hosted NFL and rugby union matches, the rugby league Challenge Cup final and heavyweight boxing world title fights since it was opened.

Any potential deal would also be a first since the club appointed Todd Kline as their first-ever chief commercial officer. Kline's previous roles include working for the Miami Dolphins, where he helped the franchise land a naming rights deal for their stadium worth a reported £226million across the 18 years.

Even without the cash injection of a naming rights deal, Spurs already have the fifth best annual turnover in the Premier League. They also have lucrative long-term deals with shirt sponsor AIA, kit supplier Nike and sleeve sponsor Cinch.

Antonio Conte's side have also made a strong start to the season on the pitch, sitting third in the Premier League after their first nine matches of the campaign.

Spurs bounced back from last weekend's North London Derby loss to Arsenal by winning 1-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening. The result leaves them four points behind their local rivals, who are currently top of the table.
