Tottenham have finally agreed a fee with Atalanta for the signing of Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero, according to reports in South America. Fabio Paratici has been locked in negotiations with the Serie A outfit for what seems like an eternity but a deal is now edging closer to the finish line.
Spurs are prioritising the signing of a centre-back and could still bring in two following the departure of Toby Alderweireld.
Romero is a player Paratici knows all too well having previously signed him at Juventus and he has identified the 23-year-old as his top target for Spurs this summer as he looked to revamp their defence.
Now it’s believed Spurs have reached an agreement with Atalanta, per TyC Sports in Argentine.
Tottenham will pay €50million (£42m) plus £4.3m in add-ons to the Italian club.

Romero has had an agreement over personal terms and a five-year contract for a matter of days.
He’s been keen to push through the move but has been respectful to Atalanta while patiently awaiting the green light.
However, the report also states that the deal will now be held up by Atalanta, who want a replacement through the door first.
That is believed to be Juventus’ Merih Demiral, who is a leading target on their shortlist.
Atalanta believe they can finalise a deal for the Turkish international as Juve are open to a sale and need cash.
Demiral was once considered untouchable by the Juve board and Tottenham have also been linked with him in recent windows.
Romero could join his international companion Giovani Lo Celso and former club team mate Pierluigi Gollini in north London.
Gollini has already completed his move to Spurs on an initial loan that will become permanent if he makes 20 appearances in all competitions.

Spurs are also set to pursue a deal for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu once he returns from the Olympics.
He is also one of the names on Atalanta’s shortlist to replace the departing Romero.
Tottenham are also keen on Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, who has just one year remaining on his contract in Italy.
Serge Aurier, Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks could all potentially leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
