Top 10 goalkeepers in the world right now as Man Utd’s David De Gea drops out

Often they're the game's forgotten heroes, but don't worry – we're looking after number ones by honouring the golden glovesmen across the world.

There's some serious talent between the sticks right now and our 2021 countdown of the best goalkeepers shows the incredible amount of ability there is.

So much so that one Top 10 regular is now missing.

Manchester United's David de Gea always makes it in but even after a year of improvement at Old Trafford, the Spaniard doesn't make the cut.

Neither, perhaps worryingly, does any English shot-stopper. In fact, we didn't have a Brit on our standby list!

Our honour roll includes three from the Premier League and three from La Liga.

There are a number of faces who will be very familiar to fans of the English game.

Disagree with the Top 10? Well, let us know in the comments below!

10: Wojciech Szczesny – Juventus

Arsenal certainly know how to let a good goalkeeper slip through their fingers.

Just ask Aston Villa fans how good Emiliano Martínez has been this season!

Juve may have had a difficult year but Szczesny has again stood out and deserves to make the top ten.

His shot-stopping is up there with the very best in the business.

9: Samir Handanovic – Inter Milan

  • Since joining Inter from Udinese nearly ten years ago, the Slovenian has made quite an impression.

His form over the past 12 months means he simply has to be included.

Handanovic's consistently calm and assured displays have made him a legend in Milan and the fans think he is up there with the game's best.

The old-school keeper is a class act.

    8: Edouard Mendy – Chelsea

After Thibaut Courtois left Stamford Bridge, Chelsea spent big trying to replace him.

Kepa came, and went, from the line-up – but new boy Mendy looks the real deal.

His clean sheet record under new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel speaks volumes for a keeper who has taken no time at all to settle in the Premier League.

He already looks a great bit of business – especially off the back of his performance in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

7: Thibaut Courtois – Real Madrid

After a tough start to life in Madrid, some thought this deal was a massive mistake.

Courtois has made many critics eat their words as Real battle back into the race for top trophies.

He's maintained sixth spot for a second year in our list of the world's golden glovesmen.

He's got a massive few months ahead of him for club and country.

    6: Alisson – Liverpool

Things have changed since Liverpool got their hands on the Premier League trophy.

The Reds are about to give it back to Manchester City, but when fans look for positives they know they still have one of the best keepers in the game.

Yes, last year's number one has fallen a few places.

But don't bet against Alisson – and Liverpool – climbing again in the near future.

    5: Marc-Andre ter Stegen – Barcelona

Quite how many top-class keepers Germany need is anyone's guess.

But they keep on producing them and the Barca man has again impressed with his club badly lacking.

Immaculate with his feet, he is always tasked with building Barcelona’s play from the back but he is very good with his hands, too.

The talents of ter Stegen has somehow kept them in the La Liga title race.

    4: Keylor Navas – PSG

PSG looked like they were starting to fulfill their potential under Mauricio Pochettino – until Manchester City swept them aside this week.

But looking at the positives for the French giants, it's not just Mbappé and Neymar who their fans have to thank – their goalkeeper is top notch too.

Navas has been sensational between the posts, and despite not being wanted by Real Madrid in 2019, he is proving people very wrong.

For all PSG's big buys, this could prove to be a £13million bargain.

    3: Ederson – Manchester City

If Manchester City do beat Chelsea in the Champions League final to clinch the treble, then a lot of it will be down to their number one.

Ederson is getting better with every season he plays in English football.

There are not too many better-suited players to a club than the Brazilian, 27, and Manchester City.

Now he wants to fill up his trophy cabinet.

2: Manuel Neuer – Bayern Munich

Don't be fooled by a rare horror moment in the Champions League last month.

Yes, his quarter-final first leg howler let PSG escape Munich.

But the German is still top class – and don't believe that age is getting the better of him, either.

The 35-year-old has been sensational for years and has plenty left in the tank.

1: Jan Oblak – Atletico Madrid

There are not many better right now than Atleti's number one.

His shot-stopping ability is up there with the very best in the world and there is no debating that the Slovenian is a superstar.

Up from number two in our list last year, Oblak has got even better.

Now he wants a La Liga title to go with this award!
