Birmingham City are close to agreeing a deal for Austrian defender Emmanuel Aiwu on loan.
Aiwu plays for Italian side Cremonese and only joined last summer from Rapid Vienna for £3m.
However, he has been attracted to Birmingham’s vision following the takeover by Tom Wagner and investment from his business partner former NFL superstar Tom Brady.
The 22-year old Aiwu has agreed personal terms with Birmingham and it is now down to the final details being finalised between clubs on a loan with option to buy.
Birmingham have been showing their intent since Brady joined the cause, they also moved to sign highly rated young Fulham forward Jay Stansfield yesterday. The England U20 international has joined on loan.

The Blues have enjoyed a solid start to the new season, having gone unbeaten in all three of their opening games, notably securing a 1-0 win against Leeds United earlier this month, with NFL legend Brady in attendance.
Brady’s Blues are also into the second round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 victory over Cheltenham sealing their place and most recently came out 2-0 victors against Bristol City.
The Championship side return to St Andrews tomorrow as they face newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle and know that victory could see them move to top of the table if results go their way elsewhere.
Aiwu will join John Eustace’s squad and provide much-needed depth in defence as the Blues seek further reinforcements.
Birmingham fans will be hoping that the incomings don’t stop there as their side look to push on and compete for a play-off spot this season.
