Tierney on McGregors role at Arsenal that would "put the fear in everyone"
Kieran Tierney has joked that Conor McGregor would 'put the fear in everyone' at centre-back for Arsenal.
The Gunners left-back took part in a Twitter Q&A where he answered a wide range of queries from supporters.
One question was regarding UFC fighter McGregor who Tierney has formed a relationship with over the years.
McGregor is a lifelong United fan but has never hidden his allegiances to Celtic either after he was spotted wearing the shirt of Tierney when he played for the Parkhead side.
The Irishman was pictured training with the Arsenal left back's defender's name, number and autograph on the back as he prepared for a UFC fight.
The pair's relationship has blossomed since as Tierney revealed they still keep in touch since his move to the Emirates almost two seasons ago.
And he reckons that McGregor has some ability on the football pitch too as Tierney joked he would be a force in defence, but also has potential in front of goal.
@ Irn-Brew said: "If your mate Conor McGregor was to play for Arsenal, what position would you play him?"
Tierney replied: "Centre half. No nonsense. Put the fear in everyone. Seen him upfront as well, great goal scorer. Can do it all."
It's probably too little, too late for McGregor to make the transition into football as a player and it's a fair assessment to say the former UFC champion choose the right career path.
But don't rule out McGregor getting involved in the sport on the business side of things at some point as he recently revealed he attempted to buy shares off Celtic owner Dermot Desmond back in 2018.
The Irishman claims he had a 'conversation' with Desmond to acquire shares from him after he was probed about buying Manchester United.
He said: "A conversation came up regarding Celtic first to be honest. To acquire shares from Dermot Desmond.
"I am certainly interested in acquiring a sports team at some stage! Both Celtic and Man United are teams I like for sure. But I am open. I feel I could do big things for a club."
Tierney, who signed a new five-year deal at Arsenal on Friday, has rapidly become a fan favourite in North London and Mikel Arteta is delighted that he has commited his future at the club.
He told the club's website : “This is great news for us. As manager of the club, speaking on behalf of the entire staff, it’s a pleasure to work with Tierney.
"His quality, energy, commitment and professionalism, not only on matchdays, but every day in training are always at such a high level.
"Tierney gives us so much extra strength both defensively and offensively and it’s great to know that he’ll be with us for the long term."
