Arsenal could be forced to venture into the transfer market for a striker if Alexandre Lacazette seals a move away from north London. The Frenchman is closer to the Emirates’ exit door than ever before, the main problem for Arsenal is a fundamental lack of targets up top.
With just 12 months remaining on his Gunners deal and no sign of a new contract on the horizon, it would make sense for Arsenal to cash in on Lacazette while they have the chance.
The 30-year-old was Mikel Arteta’s top Premier League scorer last season with 13, but the Gunners’ hierarchy are seemingly trying to inject youth into their ageing strike force as Lacazette nears the exit door.
A number of targets like Tammy Abraham and Lautaro Martinez have slipped through the net. The market looks barren, but Express Sport analyses three strikers Arsenal could take an interest in before the end of the month:
JUST IN: Liverpool star Jordan Henderson ‘to sign new contract’ as new details emerge
Dusan Vlahovic
Fiorentina’s Serbian frontman has been passed from pillar to post so far this summer, although Atletico Madrid now look close to securing his services.
They are not the first club to enter the home stretch, however, with Tottenham also heavily linked to the striker over the past few weeks.
All things considered, it is never too late to attempt a dramatic transfer hijack, although it would entail upstaging Atletico’s extortionate £60million bid.
He could be worth it, however, as his 21-goal Serie A haul last season fell only three short of Romelu Lukaku, who was one of the summer’s hot topics before a blockbuster move to Chelsea.

Luka Jovic
As a player in the midst of a rough patch in his young career, Jovic needs a lifeline to get back on track as his stint at Real Madrid continues to disappoint.
The youngster burst onto the scene at Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018/19, bagging 27 goals in all competitions to tempt Madrid into parting with big money to secure his signature.
Just two goals in 33 appearances later, the 23-year-old is at a crossroads.
There is clearly a player in there, however, and while Madrid may not be prepared to take a heavy loss on him to sanction a permanent deal, a season-long loan could be a legitimate option for the Gunners.
Martin Braithwaite
Barcelona’s financial woes have been front-page news for the majority of the summer, and they would need to sell before they could even think about buying again in the near future.
That has not stopped them being linked with high-profile targets, however, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the latest to reportedly take Ronald Koeman’s fancy.
Still, given their need to offload, Braithwaite could be the latest casualty as the lowest-profile of their star-studded frontline.
He made his own statement by beginning the La Liga season with a brace against Real Sociedad, however, which could either tempt the likes of Arsenal into making an approach, or serve as the first step to becoming an unlikely candidate to assume part of Lionel Messi’s goals burden at the Camp Nou.
