Three points are three points and a win is a win, but Manchester United rode their luck against Wolves on Monday evening.

Raphael Varane was the difference maker, heading home from close range from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross. However, it came after a below-par performance from Erik ten Hag's side – who had promised so much more during the business end of last season.

Ten Hag's side looked slow, but Wolves failed to capitalise on the Red Devils' performance – with Andre Onana presenting a good account for himself on his debut, until a contentious VAR decision. And as United register their first points of the season, Daily Star Sport looks at who could improve them…

    Aurelien Tchouameni

United struggled to grab the game by the scruff of the neck for long periods – with Wolves capitalising, making the clash as chaotic as possible.

And as some fans noted on social media Casemiro was looking slow, rumours of a potential deal with Real Madrid's young star started to re-emerge. Reports at the start of the window suggested he was on Ten Hag's wishlist.

United have been relentless in their pursuit of Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, but with Barca holding firm, Tchouameni could prove an interesting alternative.

    Sofyan Amrabat

It almost seems like a lifetime ago when Sofyan Amrabat was the talk of the town as he wowed with his performances at the World Cup.

Should Tchouameni prove to be too expensive, Amrabat could be the perfect alternative, as one United fan noted: "This game shows how badly United need Amrabat! He would be running the midfield with Bruno…"

Fiorentina are hoping for around £55million for the Moroccan, but recent reports suggest that Amrabat is interested in swapping picturesque Tuscany for rainy Manchester.

    Benjamin Pavard

United have been in relentless pursuit of a new full-back all summer, and Benjamin Pavard has been the name suggested more than only other.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka started at full-back, and while he had his moments, fans were calling out for the Frenchman. One fan joked: "AWB and Varane combining for a goal just in time for the Pavard rumours…"

And another added: "United aren’t scaring a damn soul this season. Ten Hag’s answer is to add Benjamin flipping Pavard!"
