Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will be looking to use the January transfer window to his advantage in order to aid the club’s ongoing battle for Premier League survival. The Magpies currently occupy 19th place in the table and remain the only side in the division without a win all season.
However, it seems as though their fortunes could be set to change in January following the completion of their lucrative Saudi-backed takeover last month.
The consortium in question is believed to be worth in excess of £300billion due to the involvement of the Public Investment Fund, which represents the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.
Newcastle are widely expected to emerge as one of the Premier League’s major players in future transfer windows as a result of their newly-found riches.
It has recently been reported that Howe will be granted a mammoth January budget of £200million in order to strengthen his ranks ahead of the Premier League run-in.
With that in mind, Express Sport takes a look at three potential targets for Newcastle as they look to send a warning to the rest of the Premier League with a fruitful mid-season recruitment drive.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Newcastle are said to be keen on signing a new man between the sticks after conceding 24 league goals since the beginning of the campaign.
They have been credited with an interest in Ter Stegen, who is said to be among the names at the very top of Howe’s transfer shortlist.
Barcelona will be reluctant to sell the German stopper on the cheap, with his current deal set to run until the summer of 2025, but money talks and Newcastle have plenty to spend.
However, they could face a tricky task in convincing Ter Stegen to swap the Catalan giants for a Premier League relegation battle on Tyneside.
Luis Diaz
Porto winger Diaz is another big name to have been linked with the Magpies in recent weeks.
He has already scored nine goals in 11 league appearances this season and is said to be on a number of Premier League shortlists.
A move for Diaz would give Howe another top-class option in the wide positions to aid Newcastle’s reliance on Allan Saint-Maximin to make things happen.
The club’s owners are reportedly prepared to meet his £68million release clause in order to nip ahead of the competition, suggesting that a January move could soon emerge as a real possibility.

Tyrone Mings
Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in Aston Villa skipper Mings as Howe looks to tighten up his defensive ranks at the turn of the year.
The Magpies boss signed Mings during his time in charge of Bournemouth and has been linked with another move for the England man’s services ahead of the January window.
The 28-year-old has emerged as a real asset for Villa over the last two seasons and his leadership skills could boost Newcastle’s hopes of Premier League survival if he makes the switch to St James’ Park.
However, the west Midlands outfit will be determined to avoid selling their captain in the middle of the season, with his current deal set to remain valid until the summer of 2024.
