Arsenal want to sign Martin Odegaard on a longer-term deal from Real Madrid but need a plan up their sleeve if that does not come off. Odegaard has recently begun to show his quality after a slow start to his loan move to Arsenal in January. The Norway star was influential as the Gunners came back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with West Ham last Sunday.
Odegaard has had nothing but good words to say about both Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta during his short stay at the club.
He recently admitted he wants “stability” in his next transfer move, whether that is back at Real or elsewhere.
“I haven’t thought about what’ll happen in summer,” he told Norwegian outlet VG.
“My deal with Arsenal is until the end of season. We’ll see what happens this summer.

“I’ve said things before that I still stand for: Stability and development are key words.”
Odegaard made just nine appearances for Real in the first half of this season.
But Spanish outlet OkDiario claim it is ‘clear’ Odegaard will be part of the Real first-team squad next term.
Therefore, Express Sport has picked three players Arsenal have been linked with who they could sign as alternatives to the 22-year-old.

Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, with Arsenal one of the clubs reportedly interested in the former Liverpool star.
The Brazilian remained at Barcelona and was a regular in Ronald Koeman’s squad.
However, he has not played since December due to a rupture of the outer meniscus and is set to miss the rest of the season.
Coutinho can play in the No 10 role and therefore could be an alternative to Odegaard.
Spanish outlet Sport claimed this week Barca would be willing to sell Coutinho for £35million.
The 28-year-old still has over two years remaining on his contract at the Nou Camp but does not appear to be part of the club’s plans moving forward.
Houssem Aouar
Lyon star Aouar was a top target for Arteta last summer but a deal failed to materialise.
Arsenal instead spent £45m on Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.
Arteta remains a fan of the Frenchman, who is less of a No 10 like Odegaard but can provide the creative output that the Gunners boss is looking for.
Arsenal would likely face strong competition for Aouar though, with Juventus reportedly interested in signing the 22-year-old.
Aouar has scored five goals and contributed three assists in 24 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
Mislav Orsic
Orsic would not be a direct alternative to Odegaard but would allow Emile Smith Rowe to play in the No 10 role on a more regular basis.
Orsic has already adhered himself to Arsenal fans after scoring a stunning hat-trick for Dinamo Zagreb to overturn their Europa League tie against Tottenham earlier this month.
Now the Gunners are linked with a move for the 28-year-old.
Orsic is predominantly a winger, most often used off the left.
