Three pieces of advice Jose Mourinho can give Roma for miracle Man Utd comeback
Roma’s decision to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager couldn’t have come at a more opportune time.
Mourinho has agreed a three-year-deal to take over at the Stadio Olimpico following his exit from Tottenham.
And while the Portuguese doesn’t officially start until next season, he could make his presence felt straight away.
Roma take on Mourinho’s old club Man United in the second-leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.
They require a miracle to make it through to the final in Gdansk after surrendering the first-leg 6-2 at Old Trafford.
Daily Star Sport have come up with three pieces of advice Mourinho could give his new employers on how to beat his old club.
Get in Luke Shaw’s ear
Mourinho didn’t enjoy a harmonious relationship with many players at Old Trafford, but his treatment of Luke Shaw grabbed the headlines more than most.
The 58-year-old frequently criticised the Man United left-back and regularly threw him under the bus when questioned in the media.
As a result, we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Mourinho were to tell the Roma players to have a little word in the ear of Shaw before the match.
Wind up Solskjaer
Top trending sport stories right now
In the final days of Mourinho’s reign at Tottenham, the Portuguese boss was involved in an unusual spat with Ole Gunner Solskjaer.
Solskjaer was unhappy with a dive from Spurs ace Son Heung-min and claimed that had his own son acted in a similar way he would receive no dinner.
Whether Mourinho instructed his players to go to ground easily, we’ll never know. But what we do know is that Solskjaer was spitting feathers after the match.
The United boss has a short temper when it comes to diving, so Mourinho could encourage the Roma players to do their best Tom Daley impression to wind up Solskjaer.
Target Paul Pogba
Paul Pogba revealed last month that Mourinho can make players feel as though “they don’t exist.”
Mourinho probably wouldn’t have taken particularly kindly to that sort of criticism in the wake of his Spurs exit.
Consequently, he might like to let Pogba know that his new crop of players will be playing for him when he begins next season.
Targeting Pogba and frustrating him in the early stages of the match would send a a personal message to the Frenchman from Mourinho and also allow Roma to show they're still up for the fight.
