The UK Government’s sanctions on Chelsea will have, understandably, shaken the club. However, Thomas Tuchel has remained unflustered by a few of the implications that will affect his job directly.

The Blues have been sanctioned due to their owner Roman Abramovich, and his links with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The 55-year-old was planning on selling the Stamford Bridge outfit, however, those plans have been frozen and the club are now operating under a special licence until the end of May.

The sanctions mean that the club are no longer able to sell tickets to anyone besides season ticket holders, sell merchandise or spend more than £20,000 on travel per matchday.

However, it will also have a major effect on the club’s transfer dealings.

Chelsea have been given a transfer ban which means that they cannot buy or sell players, nor can they negotiate contracts with their current stars.

But, according to the Telegraph, Tuchel is ‘less concerned’ about these issues than he is about who will take over from Abramovich once a sale is greenlighted by the UK Government.

Over the past few days, plenty of reports have circulated about potential buyers of the club but Abramovich’s assets being frozen at present means that any negotiations will have to wait for a later date.

The report goes on to state that despite interest from several other clubs, including Manchester United, Tuchel is keen to remain as Blues boss.

However, the German will be short of numbers in defence if the club continues to be unable to negotiate contract extensions.

Defenders Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are set to leave the club at the end of the season as it stands, and a new deal looks all but off the table for the foreseeable future.

Christensen and Azpilicueta have both been linked with moves to Barcelona, whereas Rudiger is attracting plenty of interest from numerous European giants – though Tuchel will be disappointed to see any of the trio leave.

The club were linked with signing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde in the summer and in January but a deal never materialised for the Frenchman due to transfer fees, and that will now be a distant thought at the club.

Chelsea will take on Norwich City at home on Thursday night, but captain Azpilicueta has admitted that his side’s preparation for the fixture have been badly influenced by the revelations over the past 24 hours.

Speaking to Premier League Productions at Carrow Road, the Spaniard said: “I have to admit that this has not been a normal day.

“We cannot control this matter. We come here and we’re focused on the game and we know we have to fight for the three points.

“We have to forget about the stuff that is happening outside.”

It remains to be seen how the UK Government continue to sanction Chelsea and whether it will eventually prove too much for players, staff and management.
