Thomas Tuchel has spoken out for the first time after being appointed as Chelsea’s new manager.

The German boss has replaced Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge and takes training on Tuesday night as he meets the Blues squad.

Chelsea play Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday, and Tuchel will be looking to get off to a bright start.

The west London club go into the game sitting ninth in the table as things stand.

And following his arrival in England’s capital, Tuchel has said: "I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

"We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea.

"At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.

"I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing."

Tuchel arrives at Chelsea 28 days after being shown the door by French champions PSG.

He takes over a side that have only won two of their last eight Premier League games, sitting 11 points behind leaders Manchester United.

But Blues director Marina Granovskaia outlined her expectations of Tuchel, saying in a statement: "It is never easy to change Head Coach in the middle of the season but we are very happy to secure one of Europe’s best coaches in Thomas Tuchel.

"There is still much to play for and much to achieve, this season and beyond. We welcome Thomas to the Club."

The German achieved the best win percentage in Ligue 1 history at 75.6 per cent, and led PSG to the Champions League final last season where they were beaten by Bayern Munich 1-0.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will hope Tuchel can hit the ground running following a busy summer at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues splashed out £200m on new signings, though the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner have struggled in their first few months in west London.
