Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has decided he does not hold any interest in taking over at Aston Villa amid claims he could be in contention to replace Steven Gerrard. The Champions League-winning tactician has been out of work since September when he was ruthlessly axed by Todd Boehly following a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia just days after the transfer window closed.
Tuchel is said to have already turned down Bayer Leverkusen while he patiently awaits the chance to return to management following a short lay-off.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both believed to be admirers of his work, which is why Tuchel is reluctant to dive straight back into another project.
According to The Telegraph, the 49-year-old has no interest in the vacancy at Villa and if the Midlands club were to make an approach, it would be politely declined.
His Chelsea departure is understood to have cut deep as Tuchel intended to stay with the Blues for the foreseeable future.
Tuchel detailed his devastation at Chelsea’s decision to sack him shortly after his dismissal in an open letter to supporters which read: “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end.
“This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.
“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever. I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”
Mauricio Pochettino is also believed to be admired by the Villa hierarchy with the Argentine yet to return to management following his departure at Paris Saint-Germain.

It is currently unclear whether he would hold any interest in the Villa job as he eyes a return to Tottenham, who sacked him in November 2019.
Brentford’s Thomas Frank is another coach that is rated highly by the Villa hierarchy and his side travel to Villa Park on Sunday in Premier League action.
The Dane has made it clear it would take something spectacular for him to walk away from his current project in west London.
“I am in a position here where I am very happy at Brentford. I am focusing on that every single day,” Frank said when linked with the Brighton vacancy.
“So for me it would need to be something crazy special. Football is football, but the one thing for sure is that I am very happy.”
Brentford have opened contract talks with Frank as they look to tie down their highly-rated boss to an improved deal.
Villarreal boss Unai Emery, who managed Arsenal and came close to joining Newcastle post-Saudi takeover, is also reportedly in the running for the job.
Emery guided the Yellow Submarine to Europa League glory in 2021 as Villarreal beat Manchester United on penalties in Warsaw.
