Thomas Partey has rated his own performances at Arsenal over the past year as ‘four out of ten’ and claims he is his own worst critic when it comes to judging himself.

The Ghanaian midfielder came in for criticism after Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United on Thursday, with the 28-year-old sloppy in possession for the Gunners’ second defeat in three games.

Partey recently celebrated his one-year anniversary following his £45million move to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October, but the midfielder has vowed to improve on his recent outings.

When asked to rate his first year at Arsenal, Partey told Sky Sports: ‘I give myself four (out of 10) because there are moments I can really hurt the other team but there are also moments where I allow myself to lose focus and that’s when everything goes down. This is when you realise that you have to get better.

‘(Against Manchester United) I had a couple of moments where I gave two balls away and someone watching on TV from home or in the stadium, it is normal that they see it.

‘At the end, I have to be happy with some moments, I have to learn from the bad parts and try to do better. I think they demanded more and personally I know I can give more. I have to keep working and at the end I will get the results.’

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arteta did not pull any punches when discussing Partey’s performances over the past 12 months.

‘We need him at his best,’ the Spaniard said. ‘He can produce more and he knows that. We have to demand more from him.

‘The fact that he’s had so many injuries has not been really helpful for him because he hasn’t found the platform physically to be at his best. Then he has had some games where he has been more consistent than in others.’

Arteta is ultimately confident Partey will emerge as his prize midfielder and believes it is the player’s ability and not his big transfer fee that is leading people to judge him harshly.

He added: ‘I don’t think it’s related to the money. The supporters have seen the quality and what he can provide on the pitch. We want to see that more often.

‘He is an important player in the team and obviously we’ve missed him for long, long periods since he joined and that’s not ideal. But our aim is just to get the best out of him and how we’re going to do that.’
