Thiago Alcantara endured a tough start to his Liverpool season through injuries and the difficulties of the global pandemic, but the Spaniard is targetting every success at Anfield and is putting no limit on his ambitions.
Thiago Alcantara joined Liverpool last season ahead of the 2020/21 campaign in a deal worth £25million from Bayern Munich, and the Spaniard didn’t take long to become a fan favourite.
The experienced midfielder made 30 appearances across all competitions for the Reds last season, but a knee injury hampered his start to life in Merseyside.
Injury seemed to be the trend of Liverpool’s season last year, as they scrambled to a third place finish despite regularly fielding fringe players in the absence of some of their main stars.
Jurgen Klopp is now blessed with a fully fit squad for the season ahead, and Thiago is putting no scale on his ambitions for the season ahead.
Liverpool have already started the season in excellent form and have taken seven points from a possible nine so far in the league, and their performances have already issued a statement that they will be contenders for the title this year.
Thiago played a key role towards the end of Liverpool’s season last year but feels that he is even better equipped this time around, and that he has evolved with the rest of the squad following the troubles faced last campaign.
The 30-year-old spoke to Liverpool’s official matchday programme and said: “In terms of the Premier League, I’ve had a year to experience how competitive the game is and the speed of play. As is always the case when you’re adapting, it has been a good year but at the start I had tough times.
“I feel that I’ve overcome those now and I’m looking forward to this season.”
Thiago is focused on achieving every success with Liverpool, and the Spaniard already boasts an impressive portfolio with former sides Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and feels his time at Anfield will be no different.
The midfield maestro added: “Well, I have the same feeling I’ve had in every team I’ve played, which is to aim as high as possible.
“That means to win every competition possible: the league, Champions League and the cup competitions too. That’s always been the objective. I’d say there’s no difference between this year, last year and the one before that.
“We want to win everything and have that hunger to not just win every competition but to win every game.”
Thiago joined Liverpool after they won their first ever Premier League title, which was off the back of a sixth Champions League success, followed by a Super Cup victory also.
Liverpool will be aiming to reclaim their crown that was snatched away by Manchester City at the first time of asking, and the Reds still have basis of their title winning squad, with the exception of Georginio Wijnaldum.
Ibrahima Konate was Klopp’s only signing this summer, and Liverpool were widely criticised for their last of transfer activity as opposed to their title competitors.
However, Klopp has seen so many first-team players return from injury and has spent a large portion of the summer improving and focusing his side, as they look to take the league by storm once more.
