Thiago’s comments on Sergio Ramos after Liverpool handed Real Madrid reunion
Liverpool midfielder Thiago insists he will show no mercy towards Sergio Ramos even though he has huge admiration for his Spain teammate.
The Reds have been drawn against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals and the first leg in early April will be their first encounter since the 2018 final.
Los Blancos captain Ramos remains public enemy number one at Anfield after his challenge on Mohamed Salah forced the Egyptian off with a shoulder injury with just 30 minutes played in Kiev.
Real Madrid went on to win the final 3-1 to be crowned champions of Europe for the 13th time in their glittering history.
The much-anticipated rematch between the two heavyweights undoubtedly has an added edge due to the bad blood between Liverpool and Ramos.
And while Thiago admits he looks up to the legendary defender, he insists he he will have no divided loyalties when the Reds travel to Madrid for the first leg.
"I love playing alongside Sergio in the Spain team and when I have to come up against him as an opponent, then he’s my opponent," he told AS .
Who will reach the Champions League semi-finals: Liverpool or Real Madrid? Have your say in the comments.
Thiago added: "It’s great playing with Sergio. The years go by and you continue to learn from him; he keeps on evolving, keeps on wanting to compete.
"That ambition, that determination is key to what he's all about. That’s something that rubs off on the rest of us in the Spain team.
"We can all learn from a guy who has won so much in the game, yet keeps on wanting more."
