It’s do-or-die time for Liverpool when it comes to keeping Mohamed Salah as the Egyptian approaches the final 18 months of his current deal. It’s clear the Reds want to keep their star man but with Salah now arguably the best player in the world based on current form, the former Roma and Chelsea man has the right to demand astronomical wages.
He is yet to do that though, although reports claim Salah is looking for between £300,000-£380,000 per week to commit his long-term future to the club.
The 29-year-old has already left the ball in Liverpool’s court when his future is concerned by publicly stating earlier this year that he’d like to continue fighting for trophies and breaking records at the club.
But Liverpool are yet to strike an agreement with the player and they are said to be concerned about breaking their wage structure for someone approaching the tail end of their career.
As many have argued including Jamie Carragher, Salah has conditioned himself and treats his body like a temple which should surely ease fears he could burn out if committed to a long-term contract on mega-money.

Salah is currently Liverpool’s second-highest earner with Thiago Alcantara and only Virgil van Dijk (£220,000 per week) takes home more.
Yet surprisingly, there are 15 other players in the division that also earn more than Salah’s current salary, as per The National.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the Premier League’s top earner and he reportedly receives up to £510,000 per week.
Next up is Kevin De Bruyne (£400,000), who cancelled out Salah’s wonder goal with a deflected equaliser in front of the Kop at Anfield.
Salah is said to be confused as to why his contract situation has not been resolved as smoothly as De Bruyne’s at Man City.
Manchester United quartet David de Gea (£375,000 per week), Jadon Sancho (£350,000 per week), Raphael Varane (£340,000 per week) and Paul Pogba (£290,000 per week) also receive more than Salah.
Chelsea’s record-signing Romelu Lukaku also pockets a reported £325,000 per week with N’Golo Kante understood to be on around £290,000 per week.
Blues forward Timo Werner, who was signed from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020, nets a tidy £272,000 per week.
City’s £100million man Jack Grealish earns around £300,000 per week, the same figure as team-mate and England colleague Raheem Sterling.
There are four players who earn around the £250,000 per week mark, including Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani plus John Stones and Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Gunners midfielder Thomas Partey is also believed to earn a similar figure to Salah at around £200,000 per week.
With Salah currently outperforming virtually everyone on that long list, the Egyptian and his entourage will feel they have every right to demand whatever they please during contract negotiations with Liverpool.
