Manchester United target Erik ten Hag reportedly has no interest in leaving Ajax midway through the season – even if the Red Devils axe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the coming weeks.

Ajax chief ten Hag has once again emerged as a leading contender to replace Solskjaer as pressure continues to pile on the Norwegian.

United have now lost six of their last 12 games following Saturday's toothless 2-0 loss at home to bitter rivals Manchester City.

Speculation has intensified once again over Solskjaer's position in the wake of another sorry performance.

But regardless of whether or not United choose to give Solskjaer the chop, they seem destined to be left disappointed in any potential pursuit of ten Hag.

According to The Independent, sources close to ten Hag have indicated that the Dutchman will not be leaving Ajax midway through the season under any circumstances.

The Ajax boss has attracted Premier League interest already this year. Tottenham were keen on luring him to London this summer, but they realised, just like United, that achieving that was easier said than done.

Ten Hag's admiration for the Dutch champions means he wouldn't consider a sudden exit under any circumstances – which means United would either have to play the waiting game for the Ajax chief or focus their attention elsewhere if they become adamant that Solskjaer has to go.

Despite United's rotten run of form, the report goes on to state that Solskjaer is planning for their next Premier League clash with Watford after the international break.

The problem for United is that it's not really clear where they would turn should they axe Solskjaer.

Their options have been depleted now that Antonio Conte is no longer on the market. His decision to join Tottenham last week has arguably robbed United of the standout candidate to replace their current boss.

The same report highlights that former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Ragnick has been suggested as a temporary solution if Solskajer's position becomes untenable.

Although the German would be interested in a short-term role and does already have a relationship with the United board, his desire for a permanent footballing role in the long-term is viewed as a stumbling block.

Even with the persistent issues in the search for his potential successor, the writing appears to be on the wall for Solskjaer.

Despite being viewed as "the long-term plan" by United chiefs, who handed him a bumper new deal in the summer, it seems as though a lack of available elite alternatives are currently keeping Solskjaer in the job by default.
