Ten Hag’s biggest achievements so far – from Go Ahead Eagles to Eredivisie glory
Erik ten Hag has enjoyed success both in the Netherlands and in Germany during his managerial career having first started his coaching journey 20 years ago.
He is set to manage in England for the first time next season as he takes over as the new permanent manager of Manchester United in the summer. Ten Hag will hope he can replicate the success he has had at the likes of Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II and Ajax in the past.
As a player, Ten Hag had spells with Twente, De Graafschap, RKC Waalawijk and Utrecht but ended his playing career with just one trophy, the Dutch Cup in 2001 with Twente.
Having retired in 2002, the former central defender began his coaching career with Twente and spent four years in charge of their under-17 and under-19 sides. In 2006, he was promoted to the role of first team assistant manager and spent time working under Steve McClaren during his three years in the role.
Ten Hag had left his role by the time McClaren led Twente to the Eredivisie title in 2010, but it is rumoured that the former England boss could take up a role on Ten Hag's United coaching staff.
Three years as an assistant followed at PSV Eindhoven before Ten Hag was handed his first senior management job at second tier side Go Ahead Eagles in 2012.

He spent just one season with the club but helped guide them to promotion via the play-offs as they returned to the Eredivisie after almost two decades in the second tier.
His side, which included a young Quincy Promes on loan from Twente, finished sixth during the regular season before advancing through three rounds of post-season play-offs to reach the top flight. That promotion earned Ten Hag the management position at Bayern Munich II, the reserve side of German giants Bayern Munich, where he had a teenage Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in his squad.
He spent two seasons in Germany and won the fourth division title in 2013/14 as his side topped the Regionalliga Bayern for the second time in their history.
Ten Hag returned to the Netherlands with Utrecht in 2015 and guided the club to fifth and fourth placed finishes as well as a cup final and Europa League qualification in his second and final full season in charge.
Halfway through his third season at Utrecht, Ten Hag departed to replace Marcel Keizer at Ajax, finishing the 2017/18 season in second place. This was followed up by a league and cup double in his first two full seasons in Amsterdam, with the 2019/20 campaign voided mid-season due to Covid.
He could deliver a third successive league title this season as well, with Ajax currently four points clear of second place PSV with five matches remaining, although they will not complete another double after letting a lead slip to lose the Dutch Cup final last weekend.
