Ten Hag used opposite approach to Sir Alex in Man Utd dressing room vs Brighton

Erik ten Hag proved he is unlike Sir Alex Ferguson after his dressing room reaction to Manchester United's defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

It was a shoddy day for the Dutchman on his Premier League debut as he watched his players crumble in a worrying opening 45 minutes. A Pascal Gross double was enough to see Brighton claim their first-ever victory at the Theatre of Dreams despite an Alexis Mac Allister own goal that halved their lead in the second-half.

The reaction was wild with United fans furious with the Glazers over a lack of investment in the squad. The Red Devils have spent £60million this summer on Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez.

But as the supporters fumed around the ground and on social media, there was one oasis of tranquility – sitting right in the dressing room. Despite their awful start to the new campaign, Ten Hag refused to kick off – instead overseeing a quiet reaction.

According to The Sun, the 52-year-old refused to blast his underperforming players at half-time and, instead, gave detailed instructions to them on what to do in the next 45 minutes and to show more bravery.

It was denoted how his style was distinctly different from his predecessors – particularly Ferguson, who was renowned for his 'hairdryer treatment', bashing those that had not impressed – likely taking them off in a fit of fury.

But the new regime is the complete opposite of that strategy and it has gone down well with the players, who are said to enjoy Ten Hag's attitude. It has long been the former Ajax boss' style to stay cool and calm – a policy he adopted in Amsterdam.

However, United need a reaction soon as they face Brentford this Saturday in their first away trip of the new campaign. There is then a tough run of fixtures including Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City coming up.
