Ten Hag to raise three gripes with the Glazers as US meeting on the table

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may finally get to vent at the Glazers after requesting a meeting with the owners during his team’s US tour. There are a number of uncertainties hanging over the Red Devils ahead of the new campaign and the United boss wants them resolved as quickly as possible.

Ten Hag said it would be a “good opportunity” to meet with the US-based Glazers while he was on the other side of the pond. It is very rare that the owners and manager are in the same country.

Joel Glazer has not attended a match since April 2019 but brothers Avram, Bryan and Edward traveled to Wembley for the FA Cup final loss to Manchester City in June. United fans have protested heavily for a sale of the club.

And on the takeover latest, Ten Hag said: “That’s also a club decision. I’m more often in contact with them so this is a good opportunity to share ideas and we can talk informally. It is obvious I can give advice and recommendations but the decision is on the club.”

Takeover

This has to be the No 1 point on Ten Hag’s agenda. The uncertainty over who will own the club has been dominating the headlines for many months. Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the two leading candidates but neither has had a response to their bid.

Ten Hag needs clarity so he can plan for the future. If the Qatari or INEOS bid is close to being accepted he may get a boost to the transfer kitty as they are both planning to inject some money into the kitty.

Transfers

If the Glazers do remain in charge then Ten Hag must be desperate to know how much he has to spend. United are at risk of breaking Financial Fair Play rules are having to tread carefully by managing outgoings.

“You make the question to the wrong person. Finance is not for me, I am aware about FFP rules etc. But across United, we do everything to get that target in,” Ten Hag said on Friday.

United are still desperate for a midfielder and striker and Ten Hag may want to raise this issue with the Glazers to try and release more funds – which could pay for itself by helping to secure Champions League football.

Investment in Carrington and Old Trafford

If Ten Hag is to return United to their former glories the training ground and stadium needs to be in top shape. There has been a severe lack of investment in the facilities over the last two decades, and that could stop top players wanting to move to Old Trafford.

Earlier this year Cristiano Ronaldo shed light on just how far United are behind their rivals.

“They’re so behind with everything. You see [Manchester] City’s facilities, Tottenham’s facilities when we go there with England. People are miles ahead [of United],” he said.
