Ten Hag stuck with Henderson after Man Utd star ‘p****d him off’ due to decision

Man Utd: Shaw comments on Mount's signing

Dean Henderson faces a potentially awkward season at Manchester United after reports in June claimed he had “p****d” manager Erik ten Hag off, potentially through his comments upon leaving on loan last season. The wantaway star may be forced to remain at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign after falling victim to a brutal transfer decision.

Henderson has been strongly linked with a permanent switch to Nottingham Forest this summer following an injury-hit loan spell.

And Forest have been locked in talks with United over the 26-year-old’s signature in recent weeks.

However, Steve Cooper has seemingly switched his focus to other targets, with the Premier League season just a week away.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest are closing in on the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.

The Gunners are nearing a deal for Brentford’s David Raya, which will push Turner out the Emirates Stadium exit door.

His Forest arrival could spell the end for Henderson’s transfer hopes and leave United £25million out of pocket if no other clubs show interest.

It will come as bad news for Ten Hag, who needs to raise funds to launch a pursuit of his fourth summer target, Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

While Fred and Donny van de Beek are expected to depart, Henderson is reportedly unhappy and won’t settle for a backup role after Andre Onana’s £47m arrival from Inter Milan.

In June, the Manchester Evening News claimed the England international was also in Ten Hag’s bad books.

Ten Hag didn’t consider Henderson as David de Gea’s long-term replacement after his frosty relationship with the club “p****d the Dutchman off.”

After completing a loan switch to Forest last year, Henderson vented his frustrations at United to talkSPORT after he believed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave him false promises about becoming No 1.

“I turned so many good loans down last summer for that reason [being told he would be No 1], and they wouldn’t let me go,” Henderson said.

“It was frustrating. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal, really, at my age. I was fuming.

“I tried to join Forest all before [Erik Ten Hag joined] — I told the hierarchy I need to play football.

“I don’t want to be here playing second fiddle. I was almost gone before the manager came in, and I haven’t spoken to him since.”

He added: “I didn’t really want the manager to come in and be able to see me in training because I knew he’d probably want to keep me.”
