Ten Hag ‘spotted’ telling Man Utd to score three more goals with side 4-1 up

Erik ten Hag was so desperate to make amends for Sunday's 7-0 defeat to Liverpool that he ordered his Manchester United stars to replicate the scoreline … or at least that's what it looked like!

The Dutchman was seen barking at his players while holding three fingers up just after United netted their fourth of the evening during their Europa League clash against Real Betis, with fans cheekily suggesting he was demanding three more goals to match Liverpool's total.

"Ten Hag telling the players we need 3 more goals," one fan tweeted with a laughing face emoji, while another thought the same, writing: "Lol Ten Hag wants seven goals."

A third supporter added: "The funny thing is we could have scored seven goals if Antony and Weghorst were more clinical."

No further goals were scored, sadly for Ten Hag, but the former Ajax manager will have nonetheless been delighted with his team's response to Sunday's emasculating hammering at Anfield.

What was Ten Hag's 'three' gesture actually about? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after just six minutes with a thunderous strike just outside the six-yard box, but Betis hit back via on-loan Leicester forward Ayoze Perez, who slotted home from a tight angle.

Antony's gorgeous curler from the edge of the area re-established United's lead before a Bruno Fernandes bullet header put them out of sight. Wout Weghorst then completed the rout with just a few minutes remaining.

The victory means United have one foot (probably an entire leg, actually) in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, but more importantly marks the return of their irresistible post-World Cup form, suggesting, as Gary Neville insisted, that the 7-0 was in fact a "freak result".
