Ten Hag implemented Man Utd rule to stars that used to be only for youth players

Erik ten Hag implemented a rule that used to only apply to youth players when he arrived at Manchester United.

The Dutch tactician was named United's boss in July and immediately enforced a strict regime. And one of the major changes he made was to impose a new training time of 9am, according to the book; Ten Hag: The Biography, written by Maarten Meijer.

The book details how Ten Hag introduced the rule that used to apply to United's youngsters in a bid to galvanise his first-team troops. The 9am rule was initially deployed by Sir Alex Ferguson in training, but was phased out as United went through a number of managerial changes following the Scotsman's departure.

The Red Devils' stars were reportedly allowed to reach training an hour late when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge. However, that wouldn't be the case under Ten Hag's watch as he moved to whip United's bumbling squad into shape.

But despite having to get up earlier to reach Carrington, the book claims the United squad responded well to the time shift – to Ten Hag's delight.

He also made it compulsory for players to eat together, and share the same chefs who created a diet for the group based around fish and vegetables.

And those who don't abide by Ten Hag's new rules face a hefty fine or punishment, it was added. But the former Ajax boss is just as committed as he wants the players to be, and is very hands-on in training sessions where he prefers to don tracksuits, the book revealed.

The insight into Ten Hag's regime at Carrington comes amid reports he uses drones to monitor the team's training sessions. And to get the most out of his players, it's been claimed he has sought advice from Tour de France cycling coaches on the best diet and sleep patterns.

But Ten Hag's strict methods seem to be having the desired effect on his team. The Red Devils moved within one point of Tottenham in fourth place in the Premier League after demolishing Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.
