Manchester United go into tonight’s match with Tottenham looking to continue their recent good form. The Red Devils have lost just once in the Premier League since falling to defeat in their first two matches against both Brighton and Brentford. However, it’s clear there’s room for improvement following a goalless draw with Newcastle last time out…

Manchester United have started to tick along nicely under Ten Hag, with the club currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table with 16 points from their first nine matches.

But they were recently dealt a reality check following a goalless draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

United weren’t at their best during that showdown at Old Trafford, managing just two shots on target despite having 63 per cent of possession during that showdown.

Now, they go into tonight’s game with a point to prove as a result.

And Express Sport will now take a look at three players who Ten Hag should consider dropping as he looks to guide his team back to winning ways.

Man Utd transfers: Plans for next three signings are damning on Solskjaer

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled for United since failing to engineer a move away back in the summer.

The Portugal international netted the winner against Everton prior to the match with Newcastle but, overall, has just two goals to his name so far this term.

Ronaldo was livid at being hooked against Eddie Howe’s side, with the 37-year-old visibly annoyed at Ten Hag for his decision.

However, it was perhaps the right call given how toothless the veteran looked up front.

United are at their best when they play with pace up top and Ronaldo, as he enters the twilight years of his career, simply doesn’t have the same speed of old.

Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho started the season impressively, with the England international netting in wins over the likes of Liverpool and Leicester.

Yet, in recent weeks, the former Borussia Dortmund star has started to regress again.

Sancho posed a threat against Newcastle but his end product was lacking on a day where Marcus Rashford was left on the bench.

For the match with Tottenham, using Rashford on the left wing could be the way to go.

That remains the 24-year-old’s best position, even if he’s prone to inconsistency, and Sancho must produce the goods on a regular basis to stay in Ten Hag’s starting XI.

Fred

For years, now, United have waited to see the best of Fred.

But his best form for the club has been when they’ve been managed by interim bosses such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

It was clear Ten Hag was hopeful picking Fred alongside Casemiro would help the former Shakhtar Donetsk star rediscover some of his mojo.

Yet it was an unconvincing performance from the Brazil international who, after four full years at the club, just simply doesn’t appear to be good enough for a team who want to win trophies.

Christian Eriksen would be a better pick if fully fit, as well as Scott McTominay – even if a midfield of the Scot and Casemiro would potentially be devoid of much imagination.

Ten Hag opens up on Tottenham

Speaking ahead of the match at Old Trafford, Ten Hag has opened up on Tottenham and the threat Antonio Conte’s side pose.

“They’re a really good team and, once again, they’re a really intense team, so we have to match that,” said the 52-year-old.

“They are well-organised, so we have to be prepared. They can break very quickly. We have to be aware of that. They can defend really solid and compact, but we have to find the gaps.

“We have to make it our game, so we need the best from everyone: the 11 players on the pitch but also on the bench that can make a difference, finally.”

United beat Tottenham 3-2 in the same fixture last term, with Ronaldo netting a sublime hat-trick back in March.
