Tavares makes statement on Arsenal future amid Tierney exit rumours
Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares insists he will return to the Gunners in the summer. The Portuguese is currently impressing during a loan spell at Ligue 1 club Marseille.
The signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer demoted Tavares to third-choice left-back at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta saw fit to send him out on loan to aid his development after a difficult first season in English football following his arrival from Benfica.
Tavares has played in 20 of Marseille’s 24 league games this season and started every one of their Champions League group stage matches. He has often played as a left wing-back and has scored an impressive six goals.
While Tavares shines in France, Kieran Tierney is struggling for game time at the Emirates. The Sun claims he is considering leaving Arsenal in the summer, with Newcastle interested in a potential deal for the former Celtic man.

Tierney’s future could have a direct influence on where Tavares is playing his football next season as Arteta would want depth at left-back. The 23-year-old insists he will be back in north London once his Marseille loan has come to an end.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of this weekend’s match against Paris Saint-Germain, as reported by Football Club de Marseille, Tavares said: “Everyone knows that I still have two years left with Arsenal on my contract. We’ll finish the season.
“I’m here until the end of the season to reach our objectives with Marseille. I can’t tell you much more.
“I feel very good here, with these players, this manager. We get along really well. At the end of the season, I will return to Arsenal. I can’t say much more.”

Tavares made 13 starts for Arsenal in the Premier League last term, coming off the bench in another nine. Tierney, meanwhile, has been restricted to just four league starts following Zinchenko’s arrival.
After Tavares’ move to Marseille was announced, Arteta explained why it was best for all parties. He said last July: “For Nuno’s development I think it’s going to be really important.
“Obviously we have recruited Alex in that position and we have Kieran as well which is two really really good and strong players in that position. We believe Nuno’s best solution was to do that.”
