SUTTON: It's been a car crash – with Dithering Dickie at the wheel!
CHRIS SUTTON: Man United’s dealing of Mason Greenwood has been an utter car crash – and they’ve had Dithering Dickie at the wheel!
- Manchester United at last came to a decision over Mason Greenwood on Monday
- The Red Devils announced that the forward would no longer play for the club
- But chief executive Richard Arnold has made a complete mess of the situation
Richard Arnold has made himself look like a real Dithering Dickie throughout this entire car crash of a process. It was January 30, 2022 when Greenwood was arrested after that material was published on social media, and February 2 this year when the charges against him were dramatically dropped.
Arnold, the United CEO, could have been much more forthright but instead we waited until yesterday, 18 months after the arrest, for him to come to his conclusion. The longer we waited, the more the name of Manchester United was dragged through the mud.
One day, we heard how Arnold was working on reintegrating Greenwood. The next day, there were reports saying United were planning a U-turn.
Amid this lack of leadership, the only saving grace is the club have come to the most sensible situation, in my opinion. Greenwood’s team-mates will be glad to see the back of this saga, now that it has been confirmed he will not be returning to share the pitch with them.
They will be hoping the heat that has been on United will slowly start to cool. It would only have increased if Greenwood had been allowed to wear the shirt of the world’s most famous club again.
