Super Bowl tickets cheaper than Inter Miami as fans desperate to see Messi
The reasons behind Lionel Messi's move to the MLS
Tickets to see Lionel Messi play for Inter Miami against FC Dallas in Sunday’s Leagues Cup Round of 16 tie are costing as much as £15,000 on the resale market. That is double the average cost of a seat to see Super Bowl 57 at State Farm Stadium earlier this year.
Messi is taking Inter Miami on a remarkable run through the competition since debuting against Cruz Azul. After topping Group J and eliminating head coach Tata Martino’s former club Atlanta United following a 4-0 win, they beat Orlando City 3-1 in the round of 32.
The 36-year-old World Cup winner has inspired his new team to put a disappointing MLS regular season behind them. Miami are rock-bottom ofthe Eastern Conference, but this weekend face FC Dallas this weekend as the knockout rounds continue. It is Inter Miami’s first away game since signing their new captain and the first time he will be playing outside of Fort Lauderdale.
After a sell-out debut and the with attendance inside DRV PNK Stadium soaring, demand in the Big D is also sky-high. On Thursday, tickets for the game sold out in record time and were available for mere minutes.

As has also been the case for Inter Miami home games, tickets are appearing on the resale market for thousands of pounds. The cheapest tickets available on Friday morning were between £300 and £400 on AXS.
However, the site also has listings for as high as £15,600 a ticket. After resale fees and sales tax, that single ticket would cost £20,820.
Hundreds of tickets at the 20,500-seater Toyota Stadium in Frisco are listed 24 hours after it officially sold out. That suggests there could be repeats of the empty seats during the 4-0 win over Atlanta.

Many fans left after the 77th minute after Messi came off after scoring two first-half goals in the blowout win. Manager Martino addressed the far-from-full stands after the game.
“I really didn’t notice (the exodus in the stands),” Martino said. “However, with the type of player he is, it’s justified that this happens. I would have preferred that the public stayed and pay tribute to the entire team, but I can also understand it.”
After the embarrassing scenes, Inter Miami dropped the official prices of their tickets by around a third. Whether other teams will follow remains unclear as the prospect of Messi playing in their markets will be a significant moneyspinner for them.
Inter Miami’s next MLS regular season game against the New York Red Bulls is seeing some resale tickets cost almost $8,000. This month also sees Martino’s team travel to take on the Chicago Fire, where tickets now cost as much as £780.
Messi is also down to grace Cincinnati (for a U.S. Open Cup semi-final), Los Angeles, Atlanta, Orlando and Charlotte between now and the end of October. There are also potential Leagues Cup semi-finals and even a final in store.
