Suarez hits out at "evil" people behind Messi’s Barcelona contract leak

Luis Suarez has blasted those responsible for leaking former teammate Lionel Messi's contract to the press.

Spanish publication El Mundo revealed the details of the Argentinean star's eye-watering earnings at Barcelona in an article last weekend.

It showed that Messi has already earned a staggering £452m during his time at the Nou Camp, and it is believed to be the most lucrative deal in sporting history.

It is still not yet clear who is responsible for passing on the information to the media, but speaking to Onda Cero Suarez was clearly incensed by the way his long-term friend has been treated.

"I was surprised to read Messi's contract in the press," he said.

"I don't understand that there are people who have so much evil. What Barcelona is today is thanks to Leo."

Messi's future is still up in the air, with his contract with the Catalan giants set to expire in the summer.

And Suarez added: "He is [playing] at a spectacular level, he is the best in the world.

"Messi will retire wherever he wants, he can decide whether it's at Barcelona, in Argentina or wherever."

Messi is considering taking legal action against those responsible for the contract leak, and it has been reported he has narrowed down those who had access to the documents to five people.

They are ex-Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu; former vice-president, Jordi Mestre; CEO Òscar Grau; interim president, Carles Tusquets; and the head of the club's legal services, Romàn Gómez Ponti.

If Messi does leave this summer the most likely options for his signature appear to be either Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester City, who are realistically the only two clubs able to afford his demands.

A move to the United States to play in the MLS has also been suggested as a possibility.
