Struggling Man Utd urged to appoint manager who "doesn’t take s*** from anyone"
Manchester United are in desperate need of a new manager to resolve their ongoing troubles, and the Red Devils have been urged to appoint a boss who "doesn't take s*** from anyone."
United are thought to be close to appointing Ajax boss Erik ten Hag as their new long-term manager in the summer, as Ralf Rangnick's interim position ends on June 1. The Red Devils have been without a concrete boss since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed towards the end of last year.
But United have been urged to alter their approach as they continue their search for the ideal candidate, suggesting that Ten Hag may not be what they need after all. And that's because United have been urged to appoint someone that "doesn't take any s***."
The momentum has swung in Manchester over the last decade, as Manchester City are now the dominant force that United once were. But in an attempt to get them back in Premier League contention, Richard Keys has suggested that they appoint former City boss Roberto Mancini.
The Italian may have recently led the Italy national team to Euro 2020 success last summer, but their failure to qualify for the World Cup has already caused speculation over his future. And Keys thinks that United should consider the former City boss as not only would it wound their rivals up, but because the Italian "doesn't take any s***".
Keys wrote in his blog: "If you really wanted to stir things up – (appoint) Mancini. He’s scared of nothing. He’s like Klopp and Guardiola. He doesn’t take s*** from anyone and he doesn’t care who he upsets.
HAVE YOUR SAY: Would Roberto Mancini be a good fit at Manchester United? Comment below.
"At City that formula worked as he turned them from nearly men into winners. We know that eventually the players did for him and downed tools – but that suited management. Their long term target was always Guardiola and having Mancini turn himself into a firm fans favourite wasn’t going to be allowed to happen.
"Getting rid of Pellegrini to make that appointment was always going to be easier than sacking a serial winner like Mancini. He won’t get the job at OT – but he’d be a marvellous fit. He’s exactly what they need in that vipers nest of a dressing room."
United may be well behind their bitter rivals in terms of current form, but appointing the manager that delivered City's first-ever Premier League title could be a great way to unnerve their noisy neighbours. And perhaps he would be an ideal fit, as United need a drastic change.
