'Stop Putler' protestor tackled to the ground by security at World Cup Final

The Women’s World Cup final has been interrupted by a protestor on the pitch.

A person wearing a facemask and anti-Putin T-shirt ran on the field at the Stadium Australia during the match between England and Spain.

England were preparing for a free kick awarded to Lauren Hemp after a foul when play was interrupted.

The pitch invader was quickly tackled by security and led away before the match continued.

The BBC’s commentary team, Robyn Cowen and Rachel Brown-Finnis, said the protestor was ‘dealt with swiftly’, adding: ‘They know their rugby round this part of the world, and that was a pretty decent tackle.’

Less than five minutes after the pitch invasion took place, Spain scored the first goal of the match to take the lead.
