Steve Bruce’s son says "watch this space" amid links with Man Utd manager job
Steve Bruce’s son has told Manchester United supporters to “watch this space” ahead of the club’s appointment of a new manager.
United announced their intention of employing someone for the vacant position on a temporary basis after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday morning.
Former Red Devils captain Bruce, who played for the side from 1987 to 1996, was claimed by The Athletic earlier this week to be interested in taking up the short-term role if Man United required his assistance.
And Bruce’s son Alex, formerly of Hull City, has confirmed his dad would be “up for it” if called upon.
Talking to Sky Sports, Bruce Jnr said: “Who knows? I think everyone knows he has a great relationship with the club. If they needed him, I’m sure he would be there to help.
“I think they need to get a world-class, elite manager. If they can’t find someone at this present time, then I’m sure he would be up for it.
“In terms of the long-term, it’s important that the hierarchy get the next manager right and give whoever that person is time to improve the team and time to improve the squad and put Manchester United where they need to be.”
Bruce parted ways with Newcastle United following their £305million Saudi-backed takeover and has been linked with a return to Old Trafford in recent days.

Among the other candidates being tipped to take over from Solskjaer are Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, Zindedine Zidane and Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers.
Bruce Jnr went on to add that United must bring in a world class coach in the long-term, seemingly ruling his father out of that category but insisting he could help stabilise the club on an interim basis.
When asked about the benefits of having a well-known former player as manager, he said: “Well, there have been a few names bandied about for if they do go down the interim route.
“Dad carries a lot of experience. He knows a lot about the club. One thing you can say about the people there at the moment is that they don’t carry a lot of experience.
“Whether they want someone to come in and give them a hand for the time being, if they don’t make that elite appointment, we’ll just have to watch this space.”
