Staff member, 25, dies at stables owned by ex-Liverpool ace Michael Owen

A young woman has died while working at the stables owned by Premier League icon Michael Owen, police have confirmed.

The 25-year-old is understood to have collapsed around 8.50am on Tuesday morning at the Manor House Stables in Malpas, Cheshire. Emergency services were called and raced to the location, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement released by Cheshire police.

Manor House Stables confirmed the death on social media a few hours later, tweeting: "It is with deep sadness that we have to announce that a much-valued member of our team died at work this morning.

"The family have been informed and both the family and the team at Manor House request privacy at this time."

Followers of the account replied to the post with heartfelt messages of condolences, with one user writing: "Gosh this is absolutely awful news. I am so sorry. Deepest condolences to you all and the family who have lost a loved one."

Another said: "Such sad news. Sending my condolences to the family and the team at Manor House Stables."

"I can’t believe it. I am so sorry to hear this," wrote another, "send our deepest condolences and love to the family and work family."

Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Owen, an avid racing fan, opened the stables 2006. It is considered a state-of-the-art facility and has been used as a base for a number of trainers, including Hugo Palmer.

The 43-year-old began his football career at Liverpool before enjoying stints with Real Madrid, Newcastle, Manchester United and Stoke. He also earned 89 England caps, scoring 40 goals.
