Spurs secretly contact with five options for new boss as Lopetegui rejects deal

Tottenham Hotspur are in 'secret contact' with five different managers as Daniel Levy continues his search for a replacement for Jose Mourinho, who sacked last season.

Mourinho was axed the week of the Carabao Cup final, last May, which Tottenham lost to Manchester City, with former player Ryan Mason as caretaker manager.

Tottenham have since approached a number of managers – including Antonio Conte, Erik ten Hag, and Gennaro Gattuso – but, talks have collapsed with each one.

Julen Lopetegui is the latest to reject a deal but, according to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have been in secret contact with five separate managers as they look to fill their managerial void.

Romano highlights Levy has been in contact with Ajax's Ten Hag – who signed a new contract in Amsterdam when links first emerged for a move to London.

RB Leipzig's Ralf Rangnick was also named as a potential target for the London side.

"They are in contact with many managers and are trying to keep it a secret," Romano told talkSPORT.

"They have talked to five different managers in the last week. For example, I'm sure they contacted Ernesto Valverde on Friday.

"They were also talking with Ralf Rangnick, Ten Hag has always been there but it's not easy, I'm told that Ajax are convinced that he's staying.

"They have many managers on the list and I think they will make a decision this week."

Lopetegui was the latest name to be linked with the vacant hot seat – and Spurs reportedly put forward a 'dizzying' offer – but, talks collapsed quickly.
