Spurs fight back over ‘£160m Kane exit’ and give Nuno Espirito Santo no doubts

Tottenham Hotspur continue to play down rumours that star striker Harry Kane will be joining Manchester City this transfer window.

The Sun reported on Thursday that Kane was given the green light by Daniel Levy to leave for Man City in a whopping £160million transfer.

The England captain and Spurs talisman has been tipped to push for a move this summer in search of silverware which has so far eluded him, having registered 33 goals and 17 assists across all competitions last season.

But new Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo announced only last week that the club have given him no doubts over the 27-year-old's future in North London.

Speaking at a press conference, the manager said: "Harry is our player, period. No need to talk about anything else. Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, to rest.

"When he comes again we will have time to speak. We will have good conversations, but now is the moment for Harry to rest and to prepare for what’s coming, and I’m looking forward to him joining the group and start working together."

He was then asked if he needed clarity on Kane’s future, to which he replied: "I have no doubts in my mind. I have no doubts.

"What I wish is for Harry to recover well, to have a good rest and when he arrives he will feel that every one of us has to commit ourselves to become better.

"We are very ambitious, we are ambitious people and we want to do it well and no doubts on Harry on that."

The last time Spurs won a trophy was in 2008 when Kane was still an academy prospect.

He has since come painfully close to ending the drought on three occasions, losing out in the EFL Cup final in 2015, Champions League final in 2019 and the EFL final again last season.

Meanwhile, City are in search of an elite striker to replace club legend Sergio Aguero, who departed for Barcelona this summer.

The Blues are reportedly keen on the England man but it is still unclear whether they would consider splashing £160million on a 27-year-old with past injury problems.
