Spurs fans rage at club for tweet accepting "whatever happens" before City win
Tottenham Hotspur fans were left unhappy by a social media post by the club prior to their 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
Son Heung-min’s 55th minute was enough to defeat the reigning Premier League champions, but it wasn’t all smiles before the game.
Spurs headed into the new campaign with uncertainty over the future of Harry Kane and didn't know what to expect from their side under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
The England captain did not feature in Sunday’s game, with whispers of a move to Man City still very much present.
Despite this, it was another action by the club which annoyed some supporters, as they felt it made them look "small".
Ahead of kick off the Spurs official Twitter account posted a cartoon of their players walking out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The caption to this stated: “Whatever happens, we’ll give it absolutely everything. We’re ready for battle.”
Despite good intentions by the 2019 Champions League finalists, fans didn’t see it that way.
Some fans couldn’t believe the defeatist attitude by the club admin.
One person stated: “You sound like you already lost.”
Another added: “Small club mentality, already giving up.”
A third person agreed the tone of the tweet didn’t fill them with confidence: “Tweets like this acknowledge we know we aren’t good enough. Great mentality, try singing some players.”
Where will Spurs finish this season? Let us know in the comments section.
Rival fans also poked fun at this post.
One person wrote: “That’s a pretty embarrassing tweet for a supposedly big club. Doesn’t exactly scream confidence in the win.”
After the game some were more positive about their chances this season, even if they are to lose their talisman.
One fan declared: “The entire stadium is now singing ‘Are you watching, Harry Kane?”
