Spurs deny Nuno could be sacked without compensation if he fails to meet target
Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed claims that manager Nuno Espirito Santo could be sacked by the club should he fail to meet a key target this season.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Monday that the Spurs boss has a clause in his contract stating he would not receive any compensation if he were to be sacked at the end of the season after failing to secure a top-six finish.
The report claims chairman Daniel Levy successfully implemented the terms when reaching an agreement with Nuno this summer.
But Spurs are said to have stressed that the report was 'inaccurate' – meaning Daniel Levy may have to part ways with a huge sum if he wants to ditch another Portuguese boss.
“A Tottenham spokesperson said the information regarding the clause in Nuno’s contract is inaccurate," the Athletic added at the end of their report.
Ornstein’s initial report suggested the agreement heavily favoured Spurs rather than the 47-year-old manager, who would still have a year remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
It would mean Nuno missing out on a hefty payday if things do not go according to plan for the former Wolves boss this season.
And with the Portuguese manager having endured a tough time in charge of the Lilywhites already, the existence of such a clause would have meant he faces a lose-lose situation.

Spurs recently suffered back-to-back 3-0 defeats and a gruelling north London derby loss against Arsenal.
Nuno was under severe pressure heading into the weekend clash against Aston Villa following several spineless performances from his side, but has bought some time after a 2-1 win where things appeared more promising.
Whether there is a contractual clause or not, he will be hoping for more of the same from his side as they take on Newcastle after the international break.
