Leicester’s James Maddison will on Saturday face a Tottenham team he could join this summer with Antonio Conte a big admirer of the England midfielder.
In Conte’s absence while he recovers from surgery to remove his gallbladder, Spurs assistant Cristian Stellini may have let slip a secret his manager would not have – how much they like Maddison.
Tottenham have been linked with the 26-year-old creator who is under contract until 2024, along with Newcastle and Manchester City.
Standing in for Conte at his pre-match press conference, Stellini said: ‘We like Maddison like a player. He is an important player in this league, a player with an important type of skill, like his delivery, his cross, his right foot is a very important foot. He shoots, he crosses, he takes the set-pieces.
‘He is a player you have to take care of. When you play against this player, you have to be careful. When you feel how important is this type of skill, for sure you like this type of player. He’s a player with talent.
‘At the moment he’s playing for Leicester, a team we play against. We take care of him like an opponent.’
