England has made it to the Euros final, where they will face Italy at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Football chants are a huge part of the atmosphere and excitement, whether at club or international level – and one has stuck out during this year’s tournament – Southgate you’re the one
The Three Lions clinched a 2-1 victory over Denmark on Wednesday night, with the winning goal coming off Harry Kane’s missed penalty in extra time.
Gareth Southgate, 50, has led England to the final, having taken over as manager in 2016.
Many have dubbed Euro 2020 as a redemption for Southgate, both from 1996’s Euros heartache and the 2018 World Cup defeat to Croatia.
While the unmistakable cry of ‘It’s coming home’ has echoed around pubs, beer gardens and stadiums, another song has quickly caught hold.

Set to the tune of Atomic Kitten’s Whole Again, Southgate you’re the one! has been sung across England as the team stormed their way to victory.
And the band have fully embraced the new unofficial lyrics, with a video of Atomic Kitten members Natasha Hamilton, Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost celebrating Wednesday night’s win by singing Southgate’s song with a brass band.
Atomic Kitten has also re-released the song with the alternative lyrics on streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
And England fans are keen for the song to reach Number 1 in the charts to commemorate England’s success.
One fan wrote on YouTube: “Let’s get this to Number 1!”.
Another said: “Seriously, what a tune. Blast this one lads, enjoy it, it’s coming home”.
Liz McClarnon wrote on Twitter: “This is nuts but Me, Tash & Jen are super excited to be able to contribute to the awesome energy that is filling English Streets with a brand new version of Whole Again.
“Totally inspired by the English Footy fans in support of Gareth Southgate & the team”.
The song changes lyrics like “You can make me whole again” to “Football’s coming home again” and “Baby you’re the one, you still turn me on” with “Southgate you’re the one, you still turn me on”.
So if you need to brush up on the song ahead of Sunday night’s Euros final against Italy, see below for the full lyrics.
Southgate you’re the one! Lyrics
If you see me walking down the street
Staring at the sky
And dragging my two feet
You just pass me by
It still makes me cry
But football’s coming home again
And if you see me in the stands
I’m laughing and I’m joking
Doing what I can
I won’t put you down’
Cause I want you around
Football’s coming home again
Looking back on when we first met
I cannot escape and I cannot forget
Southgate, you’re the one – you still turn me on
Football’s coming home again
Time is laying heavy on my heart
Seems I’ve got too much of it
Since we’ve been apart
My friends make me smile
If only for a while
Football’s coming home again
Looking back on when we first met
I cannot escape and I cannot forget
Southgate, you’re the one – you still turn me on
Football’s coming home again
For now I have to wait
But this is our time
It is our fate
‘Cause I just can’t go on
It’s already been too long
Football’s coming home again
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Looking back on when we first met
I cannot escape and I cannot forget
Southgate, you’re the one – you still turn me on
Football’s coming home again
Oh, oh, oh
Looking back on when we first met
I cannot escape and I cannot forget
Southgate, you’re the one – you still turn me on
Football’s coming home again
Southgate, you’re the one – you still turn me on
Football’s coming home again
