Southampton have completed the loan capture of Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

Broja, 19, will join for the season in the first of two moves Southampton are hoping to complete to bolster Ralph Hasenhuttl’s attack following Danny Ings’s departure for Aston Villa last week.

The deal does not contain an option for Southampton to sign Broja permanently next summer.

But Adam Armstrong is on course to join Southampton permanently from Blackburn after the two clubs agreed a deal worth up to £15m.

Armstrong is due to undergo a medical on Tuesday.

Broja, who has also been targeted by clubs in Italy and Belgium, spent last season on loan at Dutch club Vitesse where he got his first taste of regular senior football.

He scored 11 goals in 34 games. Chelsea secured his long-term future last month by tying Broja down on a new five-year deal and have allowed him to go on loan again to continue his development.

Hasenhuttl said: ‘Armando is a very talented player who we were impressed by last season.

‘He is young, but he comes now with a full season of experience in senior football with a good team, and he brings a lot of qualities that can help us.

‘He is a strong, quick player with a good instinct and this makes him a good fit for the way we like to play.

‘I know how highly regarded he is by Chelsea, and I think this will be a good place for him to continue his own development as well.’

Broja signed a new five-year deal with Chelsea and will continue his development this season

Speaking about his move to the south coast, Broja said: ‘I feel very happy. I was really excited to join Southampton. It’s obviously a very good Premier League club.

‘They’ve got a good history and they play in the best league in the world, so it’s amazing for a young player to experience it, be in and around a Premier League team, and learn and develop from the older players, the staff and everyone here. It’s a very good opportunity.’

Broja is the third Chelsea player to join Southampton this summer with defenders Dynel Simeu and Tino Livramento moving to St Mary’s permanently.

Left-back Romain Perraud has also joined Southampton this summer along with Theo Walcott on a permanent basis following his loan stint last season.
