Souness fears for Alli and says time could already be up at Everton

Graeme Souness fears for ‘mystery’ Dele Alli claiming he is ‘ALREADY in last chance saloon’ at Everton… with DEFENDER Mason Holgate preferred ahead of him in midfield, after Donny van de Beek had pulled out through injury before West Ham defeat

  • Graeme Souness believes Dele Alli is already running out of time at Everton
  • Donny van de Beek was injured prior to the loss against West Ham on Sunday
  • Mason Holgate took the place of the Dutchman in the middle of midfield
  • Alli meanwhile, remained on the bench as the Toffees slumped to a 2-1 defeat

Graeme Souness believes Everton flop Dele Alli is already in the ‘last chance saloon’ on Merseyside.

Alli, 25, joined the Toffees on deadline day from Tottenham just a few hours after Frank Lampard took the reins at Goodison Park.

Milton-Keynes born Alli arrived on a free transfer on January deadline day, but could cost the club £30million through appearance and performance bonuses.

Since his move, he has failed to win over Lampard and is yet make a single start under the ex-Chelsea boss, making just six appearances from the bench.

The 37-time England international, who has not featured for the Three Lions since 2019, was overlooked on Sunday with defender Mason Holgate taking the place of the injured Donny van de Beek in the middle of the midfield.

Souness, who has previously branded Alli a ‘mystery’ just one month after signing for the club, doesn’t believe the player will be at Everton for long.

‘Dele Alli is a mystery to me. When he first broke into the team (at Spurs) I went thinking ‘he’s destined to be a top player’.

‘He had a couple of years where he was good, getting goals, working his socks off for the team.

‘But it’s just all evaporated. Lots of serious managers have looked at him and made their mind up on him.

‘For me, if I was advising him, I’d be saying ‘you’re now in the last chance saloon’.

‘If it doesn’t work out for him at Everton, where does he go after that? It’s certainly not a big club.

Souness insists it could be the end of the road for Alli should he continue to flatter to deceive

‘Everton are a big club, he should grab it with both hands. Whatever he’s doing, and only he can answer it, it’s one of two things.

‘He’s had his eye taken off the ball for whatever reasons, [or] he’s lost interest in football, at his age, really?’

Following the defeat to the Hammers, Everton are now staring down the barrel of relegation to the Championship.

The Toffees head to Turf Moor on Wednesday night to take on Burnley in a ‘six pointer’, with their Premier League status currently hanging by a thread.
