Solskjaer’s next transfer priority after Raphael Varane agrees Man Utd terms
Manchester United will prioritise the signing of a midfielder ahead of a full-back as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aims for further additions to the group.
The Red Devils are closing in on a deal to sign Raphael Varane having agreed personal terms, but are by no means finished in the transfer window.
United are interested in recruiting Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier, though are now set to alter their plans given the uncertainty surrounding the future of Paul Pogba.
Pogba is out of contract next summer and recently turned down a new contract at the club, leaving United with little alternatives other than to cash in on the Frenchman in the current window.
PSG are said to be interested in completing a deal for the 28-year-old, which has now caused the Red Devils' transfer approach to change according to the Manchester Evening News.
United must sell Pogba this summer in order to recoup some of the £89million they paid for his services in 2016 and will turn their attention to possible options in the current market.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice and Rennes youngster Eduardo Camavinga are two players the club are interested in, though could face trouble signing either individual.
Both Rice and Camavinga are expected to command significant transfer fees and are also wanted by a number of other top clubs.
Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez is another option, though Chelsea and Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested in the 26-year-old.
Solskjaer recently addressed the uncertain future of Pogba following a 4-2 pre-season defeat to QPR on Saturday afternoon.
"There's always speculation about Paul, the talks between Paul and his representatives, I'm not in the detail of every single one, I've got nothing to say really, about that," he said.
Will Pogba be missed by Man Utd should he leave this summer? Comment below.
"There's always speculation about Paul and always clubs being interested and we've seen Paul at his best. Paul knows what we feel about it and I've enjoyed my time working with him and hopefully we can continue working together.
"Talks are ongoing between Paul’s representative and the club representatives all the dialogue I’ve had with Paul is that he’s looking forward to the season."
