Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been proven wrong over the “difficult” Manchester United decision he made ahead of taking on Liverpool.
The Red Devils boss saw his side lose to their bitter rivals at Old Trafford as they suffered a 4-2 defeat.
It was the side's third Premier League game in the space of five days, having beaten Aston Villa 3-1 the weekend before.
And this led Solskjaer to shake up his squad for the visit of Leicester on Tuesday, making 10 changes to the starting XI in what ended up being a title-conceding 2-1 loss.
But the manager explained ahead of the defeat to Liverpool that there was a reason for his shake-up in looking for victory.
Speaking in the pre-match interview on the club's Twitter channel, the Norwegian said: “Most of these players played on Sunday, so they’ve had a normal week.
“It was Tuesday that was the difficult one, right in the middle of that, and I put that team in a difficult position by making that many changes.
“It was the only way.
“But I thought they coped really well and hopefully today we can get the benefit from that."
Solskjaer's selection to face Liverpool saw him make just two changes compared to Sunday's encounter, with Eric Bailly coming in for the injured Harry Maguire.
While Edinson Cavani, who scored off the bench at Villa Park, led the line from the kick-off against Liverpool.
But United's rash defending and lack of chances being consistently created led to a defeat against their rivals, though they were clearly not helped by the absence of Maguire.

The defeat at Old Trafford also suggests that the United boss could have played a stronger team against Leicester, instead of now having two losses in three days.
While they enjoyed an electric start against Liverpool thanks to Bruno Fernandes, the Old Trafford side could not keep their intensity up, despite a consolation for Marcus Rashford.
A Diogo Jota flick, Roberto Firmino brace either side of half time and late Mohamed Salah strike consigned United to consecutive home defeats, leaving a hint of doubt of their second place.
