Solskjaer urged to follow Mourinho example amid Man Utd title talk
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been encouraged to speak on "the positive edge" by Gary Neville after the Norwegian talked down Manchester United's title hopes.
The Red Devils have been challenging for much of the season and went top in January.
A recent blip however has seen them win just two of their last six and they dropped more points in Saturday's draw with Everton.
Following the stalemate Solskjaer, who oversaw a 13 game unbeaten run earlier this season, claimed his side "shouldn't even be considered as title-chasers."
Neville conceded his former team-mate could've been more optimistic with his post match words.
The pundit referenced Jose Mourinho's comments upon his return to Chelsea in 2013 where he claimed his side were not equipped to challenge, but they would be primed in his second season – he was right.
Neville would like to see Solskjaer following the Special One's example by speaking positively about their future prospects.
He said on the Gary Neville Podcast : "I think we can pick on these things. I think you'd want to be a little bit more on the positive edge.
"I remember in his first year back at Chelsea, the second time round, he (Mourinho) said 'we're not ready this year, but we will be next year'
"I think that if you're going to say something like that – you're not quite ready this year, but watch us next year. This experience now and we are going to go close.
"I think that is maybe where Ole can start turning it a bit."
United's draw was followed by a Manchester City win at Anfield which sent them five points clear at the top.
Pep Guardiola's side also have a game in hand.
Last term Solskjaer took United to three semi-finals and secured a third place finish in the league.
