Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held his hands up, claiming Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational Manchester United return was the wrong decision. The former United boss sanctioned Ronaldo’s 2021 homecoming, but the novelty soon wore off as spiralling performances led to his sacking shortly after.

“It was a decision that was very difficult to turn down, and I felt we had to take it, but it turned out wrong,” Solskjaer told The Athletic.
