Solskjaer says Sancho was "lacking in quality" during dismal West Ham display
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained Jadon Sancho's poor form for the club so far this season after joining the club in the summer.
Sancho played the full 90 minutes as United crashed out of the Carabao Cup at home to West Ham United on Wednesday night.
This was the first time he had completed a whole match since joining the Red Devils this summer, with Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek also playing a poor 90 minutes.
Van de Beek has struggled for a consistent run of starts since arriving from Ajax last summer, playing just six minutes in the league this season.
Discussing Sancho and Van de Beek's form and performances after the match, Solskjaer said: "I can't complain about the effort.
"It has something to do with the rhythm. The confidence. Their best form isn't there, as they haven't played much.
"Good for them to get time, but we didn't get the result. So like I said, there was a bit lacking in terms of quality, but not in terms of effort."
Sancho has featured in all seven of United's matches so far this season, starting four of them, but is yet to score or register an assist for his new club.

As for Van de Beek, he has made 39 appearances since moving to Old Trafford in September last year but has scored just once and only has two assists.
Last night was his second start of the season and just his 17th overall for United in what has been a difficult first 12 months in Manchester for the Netherlands international.
After being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Manuel Lanzini's early goal last night, United now turn their attentions to Saturday's lunchtime kick-off against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
