Solskjaer outlines Man Utd’s summer transfer plan as he eyes three new additions
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer concedes his Manchester United side will need at least three new faces to overhaul rivals Manchester City.
The Red Devils have continued to improve under the Norwegian and recently secured a second place finish.
They remain someway off the champions however and are yet to threaten at Europe's top table.
United are linked with the likes of Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer – all of whom would greatly improve their starting XI.
Solskjaer, who is still not satisfied with the club's standing, is hoping new additions can help fire them to glory.
He said: "I hope that we're going to strengthen with a few.
"Two or three players that we definitely need to challenge higher up in the table, because we're still too far behind to think it's just going to come by itself.
"We're planning as we normally do, as we have done. It's not like it's the end of the season and it's 'let's see what we do', that's an ongoing process.
"We're looking at the squad, the players who are going to stay and those who might be leaving.
"We're not where we aim to be, we've got ambitions to move one place further up, but it's been steady improvement.
"We've improved steadily and surely, third last season, second this season, with more points.
"We've done really well away from home, we had a difficult start with the lack of a pre-season and we lost three of the first six games.
"Loads of them were home games, that put pressure on the team, but they managed it well and the players have been very, very good.
"We've had a few players on loan that might come back in, and there's interest in a few others going out, but you want to come out of the transfer window strengthened.
"So it might be that we allow some players to go out and gain experience and come back stronger from it later on. Apart from that, it's difficult to say. I can't see too many outgoings."
