Solskjaer makes Lingard decision as four Premier League clubs eye loan
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made up his mind over Jesse Lingard.
The 28-year-old, who is yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League so far this season, has been linked to a string of rival clubs as he looks to revive his career.
Lingard will be looking to fire himself back into England contention before Euro 2020 gets underway this summer, but that might have been made more tricky by his split with Mino Raiola.
However, should the forward fail to get a loan move away from Old Trafford this month, it won’t be down to the view of his Norwegian manager.
ESPN have reported that a loan move for Lingard to leave United before the end of the window has been sanctioned by Solskjaer, and now rests with the board.
Solskjaer has spoken highly of Lingard in the past but that hasn’t reflected to playing time in the league, although he has made three appearances across domestic cups.
In total, the winger has made 210 appearances for United having progressed through the youth academy back in 2011, scoring 33 goals and creating 22.
The report goes on to name Newcastle, Tottenham, West Ham, Sheffield United and West Brom as just a few of the full list of potential suitors.
Solskjaer said of Lingard following his absence during the win over Liverpool on Sunday: "Jesse trained this morning, he wasn’t in the squad.
"So, of course, he wants to play football, we will have to see and I will sit down with Jesse and make a decision on what we're going to do.
"So far, he’s been the ultimate professional, trained well with a small group this morning that were not in squad.
"I will sit down and see if anything comes up. I'm very happy to have him around us as I know he could have played today and done well."
Next up for United is the visit of strugglers Sheffield United before a trip to the Emirates.
