Solskjaer bid to turn Sancho into wing-back 'almost sackable offence'
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s bid to turn £73m Manchester United misfit Jadon Sancho into a wing-back is ‘almost a sackable offence’, claims former Leeds and Man City defender Danny Mills
- Manchester United paid £73m for winger Jadon Sancho in the summer
- He has struggled to make impact and yet to score or assist in 13 games
- Now he could be deployed in an unfamiliar role in a bid to kickstart his career
Danny Mills says Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have committed a ‘sackable offence’ for trying to convert Jadon Sancho into a wing-back.
The Red Devils paid £73million to Borussia Dortmund in the summer to sign the England winger after a two-year chase.
Sancho has struggled to make impact and yet to score or assist in 13 games.

And now he could be deployed in an unfamiliar role in a bid to kickstart his Old Trafford career following an encouraging cameo against Manchester City.
Former Leeds and Man City defender Mills told Football Insider: ‘Good luck turning him into a wing-back!
‘He didn’t play for England too much in the Euros because I don’t think he was reliable enough to track back and do the defensive side of it. Dortmund never played him there.
‘You bought a winger who is going to create chances and score goals. Suddenly you’re going to play him at wing-back in an unbelievably leaky defence. It’s like, really?

‘That’s almost a sackable offence in itself.
‘Shall we put Cristiano Ronaldo at centre-half because he can head a ball? I think Ronaldo can head the ball better than the centre-halves at the moment so should they put him at centre-half?
‘It’s more than a little bit ridiculous.’
Sancho was introduced as a half-time substitute against Man City and United’s backroom team, according to The Athletic, were impressed by the way the 21-year-old tried to assert himself and push up in an attempt to get beyond City’s last man and also cover the runs of Kyle Walker.
